Managing the Monkeys

A large military materiel command was having difficulties keeping their managers moving on major initiatives. In meeting with the management team, one difficulty they all had was dealing with the demands of their subordinates. Wayne was invited to conduct training on "monkey management" to the top level team. By applying the principles of monkey management, productivity increased and subordinates became better managers themselves.

People Smarts
Developed by Dr. Tony Alessandra, the People Smarts training program is designed to train participants to identify their colleagues' behavioral patterns so they can work in harmony. Learn how to express personal and professional needs clearly and recognize the needs of others, how to adapt to others' styles and how to better understand your co-workers, bosses and subordinates.

Masterful Coaching
This training module, in a half-day or full-day format, will help the participants become "masterful coaches." They will learn and practice the skills of gaining commitment, releasing creativity, and helping people learn, grow and perform to their maximum ability.

Monkey Management
Do your supervisors ever feel overwhelmed with tasks and assignments? The demands on supervisors' time and attention come from their boss, themselves and their employees. One of our more popular topics, "Monkey Management," a term coined by William Oncken in a Harvard Business Review article, offers strategies for minimizing the impact of subordinate-imposed tasks on managers and for improving the subordinates' abilities and skills in managing tasks. Our Monkey Management Page offers links to resources for becoming a great monkey manager!

Integrating Work and Life
So exhausted that you can barely lift the remote control on Friday night? Tired of only being able to give the last of your energy to your family? The Integrating Work and Life workshop is designed to improve life work balance and thus enhance workplace satisfaction, improve productivity, and reduce absenteeism and turnover.

The Human Diversity Workshop
A "how-to" workshop presented in one-day and two-day formats for developing skills for working with individuals from diverse backgrounds. Participants will learn how to prevent bias and discrimination and tap into the human potential of their diverse workplace.

Strategic Planning
Many organizations are proceeding through significant changes in their internal and external environments. Strategic plans are designed to capture information about these changes and to create a method for adapting the organization to the "brave new world." This training, which can last one, two, or three days, gives people the tools to develop a responsive mission statement, to identify and quantify strategic directions and to create a plan of action that will help the organization achieve its mission.

Time and Life Management
The key to creating balance in life is taking an active approach to managing the competing demands of life: work, family, finances, and so on. This one-day seminar offers the keys to success in managing life, rather than being managed by it. The training emphasizes many of the principles of The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, and makes them real and useful to participants. By focusing on things that matter most, employees can become more efficient and effective in their work--and in their lives.

Dynamic Presentation Skills
Now, more than ever, professionals are expected to be capable presenters. Yet statistics still show that a large percentage of the population consider death to be preferable to having to speak in public. This two-day seminar focuses on training people to be capable presenters. The first day focuses on preparing presentations and on engaging the audience. The second day's efforts are directed at using audio-visual resources to enhance a presentation. The class demonstrates appropriate use of Power Point software, preparation of handouts and the use and preparation of overhead transparencies.
